Ogre Achiever
A brief life lesson from Shrek
“Better out than in, I always say.” - Shrek
I absolutely adore Shrek (All four movies are masterpieces that hold up surprisingly well!) but no line has ever resonated with me quite as much as this quote.
The first time it is uttered Shrek does so in reference to a burp. But it works for references to farts, to diarrhea, to honest admissions to friends and loved ones…anything really!
We have to let it out and let it go (and not be embarrassed by very normal bodily functions)!
It’s a perfect line and a fantastic mantra. Like an onion and an ogre, it has layers.
My cake for my recent Shrek birthday party created by the incredible Sweet Without Wheat!
This Week’s Recommendations
Happy Place by Emily Henry - Emily Henry has done it again! I love all of her books and this one is such a perfect blend of believable love story, beautiful adult friendships, and personal growth. I laughed. I cried. I was all warm and fuzzy inside. A fantastic read!
Sunshine Nails by Mai Nguyen - I appreciated this fictional story as a response to the big New York Times investigation into nail salons. It had great characters and humorous moments in addition to personal perspective on immigration and opportunity. This one comes out tomorrow!
I love to track my reading and find recs on Goodreads but the prevalence of review-bombing is absolutely tanking it as a platform.
Post-Roe reproductive care behind bars - Another massive impact that has largely been missing from the conversation
A good read on the Supreme Court’s latest horrific and hypocritical decisions
Did you know Princess Diana had TWO black sheep jumpers? The original is going up for auction and I loved this conversation with the designer.
A very good take on all the Diet Coke news this week - “When everything is an ambiguously urgent health risk, it very quickly begins to feel like nothing is.”
“As the social internet changes, it feels like the one thing we can do online without much trouble is shop. What’s left is a growing anxiety about how much we shop and why.”
